Connecticut AAUP Celebrates 100 Years of Defending Academic Freedom

It was a day of history and action as academics and activists came together recently to celebrate AAUP’s 100-year anniversary of defending academic freedom. Hosted by the Connecticut State Conference of the American Association of University Professors at Weslyan University, the day was filled with presentations and workshops, including information on AAUP’s One Faculty Campaign, shared governance and how to mobilize members. Special guest Jorge Tiede, computer science professor at Illinois Weslyan and author of the Centennial Edition of the Redbook, gave an insightful look at the early years of the AAUP. National AAUP senior counsel Aaron Nisenson gave an an up-to-the-minute presentation on the latest efforts and court actions in the defense of academic freedom. The event was co-sponsored by CSU-AAUP, FWC/AAUP, UCHC-AAUP and UCONN-AAUP.
