It was a day of history and action as academics and activists came together recently to celebrate AAUP’s 100 year anniversary of defending academic freedom. Hosted by the Connecticut State Conference of the American Association of University Professors at Weslyan University recently, the day was filled with presentations and workshops with information on AAUP’s One Faculty Campaign, shared governance and how to mobilize members. Special guests Jorge Tiede, computer science professor at Illinois Weslyan and author of the Centennial Edition of the Redbook, gave an insightful look at the early years of the AAUP while national AAUP senior counsel Aaron Nisenson informed the audience with an up-to-the-minute presentation on the latest efforts in the defense of academic freedom.
